We loved the De Halve Maan Brewery tour and would recommend it to anyone who fancies an educational beer in Bruges.
For only 9 euros, you can spend a hour being taken around the brewery learning about the century old techniques used to brew their beer.
There is an XL your too, with a professional private beer tasting. (This one costs 19 € per person and lasts 90 minutes).
Tours are organised daily between 11 am and 4 pm, in Dutch, French and English.
Our guide was really informative, with a great dry sense of humour that made the tour all the better.
We learnt about the history of the Maes family and how they have developed the variety of beer brewed at De Halve Maan over the centuries.
The tour takes you deep down into the cellars where you leant about the poor guys who had climb into the enormous barrels to clean them. It also takes you up to a roof top vantage point with views that rival those of the Belfry. It was bitterly cold when we were up there with a raging wind, but the views on a calmer day would be fantastic.

You also get a delicious Brugse Zot Blond included in the tour price to enjoy in the cosy bar/restaurant afterwards. We had more than one next to an enormous cozy fireplace – a perfect afternoon!
This tour is a great way to spend a couple of hours in Bruges – a history lesson with a beer, what’s not to like?!
